Grind the almonds in a food processor or blender until you have a smooth paste
Place the sugar in a saucepan and add 1 cup of water
Stir until the sugar dissolves
Cook without stirring until it reaches the thread stage
Add the almond paste and remove from heat
Let cool
Add the egg whites and whole egg, beaten together
Heat gently over low heat, stirring constantly to prevent lumps from forming, until slightly thickened
Remove from heat and let cool slightly
Shape into small balls using about 1 tablespoon of mixture per ball
Place in a greased baking dish and bake until lightly browned
Remove from oven and let cool completely before serving.
