Beat the sugar with the butter or margarine until a smooth mixture forms
Add the flour, baking powder, and chocolate chips alternately with the milk, beating well
Pour into a 35 cm x 25 cm diameter greased pan
Bake in a moderate oven (170°C) for about 50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean
In the photo, we made a double recipe and used confectioner's sugar mixed with a little water to make the topping.
