Cook the black beans with ample water until they are very tender
Drain
Blend in a processor
In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, and bring to caramelization (this is when the syrup turns a light golden brown)
Add the caramel to the black bean puree and blend in the processor with vanilla and butter
Season with salt
Heat it over medium heat, stirring until it's well heated
Serve warm
