500g all-purpose flour
1 packet active dry yeast for bread making
2 eggs
50g unsalted butter or margarine
milk, enough to form a dough
250g black plum in syrup or other fruit, drained and chopped
Mix all ingredients well, except the fruits, until a firm and smooth dough forms
Let it rest for about 30 minutes
Shape the dough into a roll and cut it into pieces of egg size
Make each piece into a ball and open it to form a flat disk
Place 1 tablespoon of chopped fruit in the center of each disk and fold, forming a ball
Place the dough balls on a floured surface, cover, and let them rest in a protected place until they double in volume
Meanwhile, bring a pot with water and salt to a boil
Add the dough balls to the boiling water and cook for about 6 minutes on each side, or until a toothpick comes out clean
Remove them from the pot and make 2-3 small holes in each to prevent them from becoming soggy
Serve hot, drizzled with melted butter and sprinkled with salt
Yield: 4 servings.
