1 package of vanilla or party-flavored cake mix
1 basic recipe for egg yolks
3 cups (scant) of unsalted butter, softened
3 cups (scant) of water
250g dried cranberries
250g pitted black cherries
4 large egg yolks
8 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon confectioners' sugar

3 cups (scant) of water
250g dried cranberries
250g pitted black cherries
4 large egg yolks
8 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon confectioners' sugar
Make a syrup with half the butter and water, and cook the cranberries until they're tender
Remove from heat, let cool slightly, then blend in a blender until it forms a puree
Do the same with the remaining butter and water, using black cherries, and reserve
Prepare the cake according to the manufacturer's instructions and reserve
Beat the egg yolks until they're stiff but not dry
Add the tablespoons of flour one at a time, and beat until it forms a meringue. Reserve
Assembly: Line the bottom and sides of a cake pan with plastic wrap
Gently arrange half the egg yolks in the bottom of the cake pan
Press gently to form a thick and compact layer
Divide the cake into three parts and place one part on top of the egg yolks
Cover with cherry topping, then place another layer of cake
Spread cranberries over that and finish with the third layer of cake
Place under a serving plate, flip it upside down, and remove from pan
Remove any excess meringue and decorate with confectioners' sugar.
