2 1/3 cups of cornstarch
2 cups of Karo red syrup
1/2 cup of water
1/4 teaspoon of salt
2 egg whites
1/2 cup of chopped chestnuts
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla
2 1/3 cups of cornstarch
2 cups of Karo red syrup
1/2 cup of water
1/4 teaspoon of salt
2 egg whites
1/2 cup of chopped chestnuts
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla
In a 2-liter pot, combine the first 4 ingredients
Stir over low heat until the cornstarch dissolves
Cover the pot; let the mixture come to a boil
Let it simmer for 1 minute
Remove the lid
Continue cooking without stirring until it reaches the hard-ball stage
Meanwhile, whip (preferably with an electric mixer) the egg whites until they become fluffy
Drizzle the syrup slowly over the whipped egg whites and continue whipping until the mixture loses its shine and holds its shape when a little is dropped from the spoon
Add the chestnuts and vanilla
Let it drop into ladle-shaped portions in a greased baking dish
If desired, sprinkle nuts on top of the puddings.
