1 cup of sugar

2 tablespoons of cornstarch
3 tablespoons of strong coffee
2 tablespoons of butter
1 teaspoon of salt
1/2 cup of broken nuts

Melt the sugar slowly, stirring frequently
Add 1 1/2 cups of coffee, slowly and carefully (releasing a lot of steam)
Stir constantly
Dissolve the cornstarch in cold coffee; add to the warm mixture and continue stirring until the sauce thickens and comes to a boil
Add the butter, salt, and nuts
Serve warm over ice cream
Makes 2 cups.
