Combine all the ingredients in a container, adding more cognac or rum if needed to cover
Let it macerate for at least 4 days
To serve over ice cream or fruit salad, warm or not
Embellish with whipped cream and toasted almonds, if desired
Packing for gift: place the mixture into a glass jar suitable for preserving (which is also a great gift!)
Close with a ribbon tie and decorate with a Papai Noel figurine, a fruit-patterned strip of fabric, a bouquet of flowers, or something similar.
