Prepare the batter and let it rest in the mold
Make the filling: In a saucepan, combine the eggs, butter, coffee, gelatin, and milk
Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly until it thickens
Add the vanilla extract
Pour into a bowl with ice water or refrigerate overnight until it sets
Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form
Fold in the 1/2 cup of confectioners' sugar, one tablespoon at a time, until a firm meringue forms
Fold in the coffee mixture, mixing carefully
Pour over prepared batter in the mold
Refrigerate for several hours or overnight until firm
Serve 8 people.
