2 cups of cheese cracker crumbs, processed in a blender (blend after mashing)
1/2 cup of melted butter or margarine
3 cups of onions sliced into rings
2 tablespoons of melted butter or margarine
1 cup of cheddar cheese cubed
1 cup of hot milk
3 egg yolks
salt and black pepper to taste
1/4 teaspoon of thyme (optional)

Mix and mash the cracker crumbs with melted butter or margarine very well
Shape into a tart form with a diameter of 8.7 inches, bake in a moderate oven preheated at 170°C for 10 minutes
Remove from the oven and reserve
Fry the onions in 2 tablespoons of melted butter over low heat, stirring occasionally, for about 20 minutes until golden brown
Spread the onions over the tart crust
Mix the cheese, hot milk, egg yolks, salt, black pepper, and thyme (optional) in a blender
Blend at high speed for 20 seconds
Pour this mixture over the onions
Bake in a moderate oven preheated at 170°C for about 25 to 30 minutes until the tart is firm and slightly golden brown.
