Whisk together the flour, butter, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth
Add the whole wheat flour, oats, and nuts; mix well
Spread half of the dough in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, top with the jam or preserves, and then spread the remaining dough on top
Cover with the remaining jam or preserves
Microwave on medium heat for 12-15 minutes
Recommended: Place the baking dish with the dough on another plate to ensure even cooking
When removing the baked bars from the oven, let them rest for 15 minutes uncovered; then cut into squares.
