1 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons active dry yeast
1/2 cup unsalted butter or margarine, softened
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
3 tablespoons whole milk
3/4 cup chopped hazelnuts or almonds
1 cup crystallized orange, finely chopped

Sift the flour and yeast together and set aside
Beat the butter or margarine with granulated sugar in a mixer until light and fluffy
Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition
Add the vanilla extract and gradually add the sifted dry ingredients, alternating with the milk
Mix well and fold in the chopped nuts and orange zest
Pour the batter into a well-greased 9x13-inch baking dish and bake in a moderate oven (170°C) for 30-35 minutes
Let cool in the pan and then cut into bars
