Peel the sweet potatoes thoroughly
Cut into pieces
Peele the pecans, remove the seeds and cut into pieces
Arrange alternating layers of pecans and sweet potatoes in a greased baking dish, sprinkling each layer of sweet potatoes with salt and each layer of pecans with confectioners' sugar
Finally, place butter in small pieces
Cover and bake at moderate heat until both sweet potatoes and pecans are tender
