Mix the butter or margarine with the vanilla extract and salt, adding the confectioner's sugar gradually, mixing constantly
Add the flour a little at a time
Chill in the refrigerator for 1/2 hour or until the dough is easy to handle
Heat the oven to very hot
Shape the dough into rolls about 2 cm in diameter; cut each roll into pieces 2 cm long
Place the rolls on an ungreased baking sheet, covered with a damp cloth
Decorate with sprinkles
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes.
