Combine all the ingredients in a bowl, except for the currants
Beat well
Add the currants and mix
Pour the batter into an 8-inch greased cake pan
Bake at 375°F for about 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean
Remove from the oven still warm
Cut into 12 slices.
