Sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt
Beat the butter or margarine with the sugar until light and fluffy
Add the vanilla extract and beaten egg yolks
Beat well
Beat very well
Add the melted chocolate
Alternate adding the sifted ingredients and buttermilk, beating well after each addition
Fold in the beaten egg whites until stiff peaks form
Pour into greased pans and bake at moderate heat for 30 to 35 minutes
Yield: 2 cakes, 9 inches in diameter.
