1 cup of strong coffee
1 cup of butter
1 cup of all-purpose flour
1 cup of Karo, golden syrup
3 large eggs
2 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour sifted
1 tablespoon of salt
1 1/2 tablespoons of baking soda
1 tablespoon of ground ginger
1 tablespoon of nutmeg

Mix the hot coffee over the butter, flour, and Karo mixture
Let it cool to room temperature and refrigerate until chilled
When the mixture is cold, whisk in the eggs well
Sift together the flour, salt, baking soda, and spices
Add this to the previous mixture and stir until smooth
Pour the batter into a greased 22 x 32 cm pan or similar size
Bake at moderate temperature for about 1 hour or until done
Serve simple or with whipped cream, cut into squares.
