3 soup spoons of butter or margarine
4 large pitted dates
3/4 cup of brown sugar or common sugar
1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
1 cup of all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon of active dry yeast
1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon of ground ginger
1/4 cup of butter or margarine
1/4 cup of brown sugar
1 well-beaten egg
1/2 cup of molasses
1/2 cup of buttermilk
Grease a 20 cm diameter mold with softened butter
Pit the dates and slice them into thin pieces
Place half of the dates at the bottom of the mold, mixing in the brown sugar or common sugar with cinnamon and sprinkling half over the top
Spread the remaining date slices on top and sprinkle the rest of the sugar mixture over it
Bake over low heat while preparing the dough, allowing the liquid to evaporate
Sift together flour, active dry yeast, baking soda, and spices three times
Beat the butter with the brown sugar until creamy and add the egg, beating well
Add the dry ingredients alternating with molasses and buttermilk, beating well after each addition
Spread the dough over the dates and bake in a moderate oven (170°C) for approximately 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean
Flip onto a plate and remove from mold.
