In a medium saucepan, combine the chocolate, sugar, milk, and salt
Bring to low heat, stirring constantly, until the chocolate has melted and formed a smooth mixture
Let it simmer until slightly thickened
Add the vanilla extract and stir
Serve warm or chilled with whipped cream, banana, chocolate, mint, or your preferred topping
If not using immediately, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week
Heat in a water bath if you prefer serving it warm.
