1/2 kg of medium-sized shrimp (about 5 cm)
2 cups of beer, wine or infused water with bay leaves, parsley, salt and lime juice to taste

The shrimp can be cooked in a steamer with or without shells
If cooking the shrimp with shells, make a cut along the back with scissors and remove the gills
Use a large steam pot that's big enough for the shrimp to fit alongside each other
At the bottom of the pot, place beer, wine or infused water
The shrimp cooks in 2-4 minutes
It's ready when it starts to turn pinkish-red
Don't overcook, as it will become tough
To serve the shrimp cold, immediately submerge it in ice-cold water, drain and refrigerate until serving time
Serves 3 portions.
