Mix the ground beef with onion, salt, and pepper
Shape 12 fine burgers using 1/4 cup of the mixture for each patty
Place one slice of cheese between two patties, pressing the edges tightly to seal the cheese inside the meat
Refrigerate
When serving, fry the cheeseburgers in a little fat until they reach the desired doneness
Meanwhile, season the tomato slices with a little salt and pepper
Top each bun half with a burger, a tomato slice, and a dollop of butter or margarine
Serve with salad
