1/2 cup of black grape or jaboticaba jam, melted

1/4 cup of butter or margarine at room temperature
1/2 pound of confectioner's sugar

1/4 cup of milk
red food coloring

Spread the melted jam on the sides of the cake rounds
Place in the refrigerator until the jam is fully set
Then, place each round in an aluminum foil cup
Prepare the glaze: combine the butter or margarine, confectioner's sugar, egg white, and milk in a small bowl
Beat well
Reserve 1/2 cup for tinting with red food coloring and using for the hat trim
Cover the top of each cake round with the white glaze
Next, cut out ear shapes from carton and cover with glaze or color with markers; make a nose and eyes with small balloons
Let it dry.
