Combine the milk and water in a medium saucepan and bring to a medium boil, stirring constantly
Let it cool slightly then add the eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition
Return the mixture to a low heat and, when it starts to simmer, add the coconut and butter
Whisk vigorously and remove from heat
Let it cool
Serve decorated with cinnamon stick
