16 ripe and firm figs
3/4 cups (sticks) of butter
4 cinnamon sticks
8 star anise or sweet herbs
Salt and black pepper to taste

Scrape the figs clean with a spoon, then cut them in half lengthwise
In a frying pan, melt the butter
Add the figs, cinnamon sticks, and star anise (or sweet herbs)
Cook over low heat until the figs are tender and dark golden brown, occasionally shaking the pan during cooking
Remove from heat, add salt and black pepper to taste, and mix well
Cover, let it rest for 5 minutes, and serve warm.
