For the meat sauce
3 tablespoons of olive oil
1 large onion (150g), finely chopped
4 cloves of garlic, minced
500g of beef (rump or brisket), ground
1 Calabrian pepper (150g), peeled and ground
1 tablet of beef broth dissolved in 1 1/2 cups of boiling water (360ml)
1 teaspoon of salt
1/2 teaspoon of sweet basil
For the white sauce
2 tablespoons of butter
1/3 cup of all-purpose flour (40g)
2 cups of milk (480ml)
1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese (30g)
300g of ready-made lasagna
2 cups of grated mozzarella cheese (200g)

Prepare the meat sauce: In a medium pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat
Add the onion and garlic and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are soft (about 5 minutes)
Add the beef and pepper and cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is cooked through (about 5 minutes)
Add the beef broth, salt, and sweet basil and stir
Cover, reduce heat, and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened (about 5 minutes)
Remove from heat and reserve
Prepare the white sauce: In a medium pan, melt the butter over low heat
Add the flour and increase heat to high
Cook, stirring constantly, until golden brown (approximately 2 minutes)
Add the milk and, without stopping, let it thicken slightly (about 5 minutes)
Add the Parmesan cheese and stir
Remove from heat and reserve
Preheat oven to 180°C (medium)
Place a small amount of meat sauce in a 22cm x 29cm baking dish
Top with 1/3 of the lasagna and 1/3 of the remaining meat sauce
Cover with 1/3 of the white sauce and sprinkle with 1/3 of the mozzarella cheese
Repeat the layers twice, starting with the lasagna
Cover with aluminum foil
Bake in a preheated oven at medium heat until the lasagna is cooked through (about 40 minutes)
Serve
