Combine the water with the baking powder and mix until dissolved
Heat the milk in a medium saucepan
Add the all-purpose flour, butter or margarine, and mix until the butter melts
Let it cool completely
Beat the eggs in a large bowl until pale
Add the vanilla extract, lemon peel, and orange peel
Add the baking powder mixture and the cold milk mixture
Add 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour, mixing with a wooden spoon
Add enough flour to obtain a dough that is not too firm
Place the dough on a floured surface
Knead in enough flour to obtain a smooth and pliable dough
Grease a large bowl
In a small bowl, place the caramelized fruits and raisins
Sprinkle with a little flour or all-purpose flour
Add to the dough, kneading well
Form into a ball and place in the greased bowl
Turn to grease the dough from all sides
Cover and let it rise in a protected area for 1 1/2 to 2 hours
Lightly grease and dust with flour a baking sheet
Lower the dough and divide it in half
Form into 2 loaves with the dough
Cover with a clean towel and let it rise for 1 hour
Heat the oven to moderate temperature (180°C)
Brush the loaves with the egg yolk mixture
Dust with all-purpose flour
Bake for 10 minutes
Cover with aluminum foil, without tightening, and bake until inserting a toothpick in the center yields a clean result
Simmer for about 15 minutes
Let it cool completely
These loaves can be prepared 2 days in advance.
