4 firm pears

Deseed the pears, leaving the cores intact
With a small knife, carefully cut around the core from the bottom up to remove the seeds
Arrange the pears in a single layer in a refrigerator-safe container
Mix together the orange juice, red wine, lemon zest, and sugar
Pour the mixture over the pears, cover, and cook on high in the microwave for about 25 minutes
During cooking, baste the pears with the wine syrup several times
Remove from the microwave and let the pears cool
Dust the pears with gelatin mixture and mix well
If desired, add a few drops of red food coloring
Let it chill
Arrange the pears back in the syrup and refrigerate until serving.
