1 Core the pears and leave the stem on
In a large saucepan, combine the red wine, lemon syrup, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, lemon peel, and orange juice
Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 10 minutes or until the pears are tender
Remove the pears from the liquid and set them aside
Continue to cook the liquid over medium-low heat without stirring until it has reduced by half or thickened slightly
Let the liquid cool completely
3 Strain the liquid to remove any sediment, then serve warm with the poached pears and whipped cream.
