Peel the potatoes and boil them in salted water until they're tender
Drain and press through a ricer
Add salt and milk and beat well
Fry the onions in 2 tablespoons of butter or margarine for 2-3 minutes
Grease a baking dish and arrange alternating layers of mashed potato, onions, and ham, finishing with potato
Sprinkle with flour and cover with 1 tablespoon of butter or margarine in small pieces
Bake in a moderate oven for about 30 minutes
Serve in 4 portions.
