Beat the egg yolks with sugar until light
Add the cornstarch and beat
Heat the milk to a boil and add some to the beaten egg yolks
Mix and place in the pan
Cook, stirring constantly, until thickened
Add 1/2 cup of butter and mix well
Add the vanilla extract
Cut each cake in half and fill with cream.
