Combine the onion, broccoli, and 1/2 cup of chicken broth in a saucepan
Cover and cook on high heat for 6 to 9 minutes or until the broccoli is tender
Stir once
Reserve 1 cup of cooked broccoli and set aside
Process the mixture well using a processor or blender
Return the mixture to the saucepan
Add the remaining ingredients, cover, and cook on high heat for 2 to 6 minutes, stirring well to avoid boiling
Combine the reserved broccoli with the soup and serve.
