1/2 pound of steak
1/2 pound of kidney
400g of mushrooms
salt and pepper to taste
Pastry: 250g of wheat flour
100g of butter
salt
a little water, if needed
Cut the steak and kidney into small cubes
Chop the mushrooms
Cook the steak in slightly salted water (there should only be enough water to cover the meat)
After one hour of cooking, add the kidney and cook everything together for another 20 minutes
Add the mushrooms and cook until they're tender
Meanwhile, mix the pastry ingredients and knead well
Let it rest for half an hour
Roll out the pastry to fit a pie dish, leaving some excess for covering
Spread butter on top of the pastry
Fill with the meat mixture and cover with the remaining pastry
Poke the pastry with a fork
Put in a moderate oven and bake for 40 minutes
The gravy from cooking the steak can be thickened with a little cornstarch and served as a sauce.
