Place the asparagus in a baking dish
Mix the melted butter and flour, adding the milk gradually, whisking constantly
Cook slowly until thickened, stirring constantly
Add the cheese and salt
Pour the sauce over the asparagus
Dust with breadcrumbs and top with small pieces of unsalted butter
Bake in a slow oven for 30 minutes
