Mixture:
250 g wheat flour
1 tablespoon active dry yeast
75 g sugar
vanilla
1 pinch of salt
1 egg
125 g unsalted butter or margarine
Filling:
125 g ground almonds
150 g sugar
orange zest
juice from 1 or 2 oranges
Glace:
50 g confectioner's sugar
1 tablespoon orange juice (or more as needed)
You can also use pecans or Brazil nuts instead of almonds
Add a few drops of almond extract for extra flavor
Sift the flour with yeast, add the sugar, vanilla, salt, egg, and butter or margarine
Mix quickly until a smooth dough forms
For the filling, combine ground almonds, sugar, orange zest, and enough orange juice to achieve a spreadable consistency
Divide the dough into two equal parts and shape each into a rectangle approximately 30 x 25 cm
Place one part in an greased mold and cover with the filling (leave a 1/2 cm border without filling)
Cover with the other piece of dough, pressing the edges
Poke with a fork and bake in the oven
After baking, cover with the prepared glaze using confectioner's sugar and enough orange juice to achieve a thick consistency (just after removing from the oven)
Finally, cut into squares.
