Slice the potatoes into thin rounds and place them in a dish with water
Place the butter or margarine and onion in a skillet over low heat, cooking until the onion is soft
Add the drained potatoes, mix well, and season with salt
Add the heavy cream, cover the skillet, and cook, stirring occasionally, until the potatoes are tender
Beware of the potatoes sticking to the bottom of the skillet
If necessary, add a little milk to finish cooking the potatoes
The potato should be soft, with some cream as a sauce
Add ground nutmeg if desired and mix well
Serve alongside your favorite meat or fish
