Preheat the oven to a moderate temperature
Layer the potatoes in a well-greased 1 1/2-liter baking dish
Sprinkle each layer of potatoes with salt, pepper, and chopped onion
Place small pieces of butter on top of each layer
Pour the milk over the top
Bake in a moderate oven for approximately 75 minutes
Serves 4 people
