4 medium-sized potatoes, peeled and cut into thin slices

Preheat the oven
Sauté the onions in butter in a medium pan for 5 minutes or until they're tender
Add the flour, salt, and pepper, mixing well
Add the milk, cooking until it thickens
In a baking dish, arrange a layer with half of the potatoes
Cover with half of the white sauce
Repeat the layers and bake in a moderate oven for 45 minutes (cover the dish)
Remove the cover and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender
Serve hot.
