Preheat the oven to moderate temperature (170°C)
Butter 2 baking sheets and reserve
Beat the butter or margarine until creamy, add the confectioner's sugar, almonds, vanilla, and flour, mixing well
Make small balls of about 2 cm in diameter with this dough, coat them in the beaten egg and then in the chopped walnuts
Press a candied cherry, cut side down, onto the center of each dough ball
Place on the baking sheets and bake for 25 minutes
Serve in paper forms.
