Beat the butter, sugar, egg, and vanilla vigorously until smooth
Add the flour, baking soda, and salt
Mix well
Shape into a log about 7 cm in diameter
Wrap in aluminum foil and refrigerate for 1 hour, or until firm
Preheat the oven to 200°C (hot)
Slice the logs into thin rounds (about 4 mm thick) and place on a greased baking sheet
Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until lightly golden
