Melt the butter or margarine, granulated sugar, and all-purpose flour in a bowl until it forms a crumbly mixture
Add the chopped walnuts or pecans and mix well
Mix the water with vanilla extract and add to the dough, mixing with a fork until it forms a ball; do not overmix
Form balls of 1.5 cm diameter, shape them with a fork, and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper
Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes or until lightly golden
Remove from the oven and let cool
Mix the lemon juice with confectioners' sugar and red food coloring (if using) and drizzle over the cookies.
