Prepare the cake mix according to the package instructions
Divide the dough into individual muffin cups or mini tart pans, greased and floured, filling only half-way
Bake in a moderate oven for 25 minutes or until golden brown (test with a toothpick)
While the fritters are baking, prepare the glaze: mix together sugar, water, orange juice, and zest
Bring to a boil and let cook for 5 minutes
When the fritters are ready, let them cool for 1 minute, then unmold onto a plate and immediately brush with the warm glaze, making sure they're well coated
Chill in refrigerator
Serve cold with whipped cream
Best served within 8 to 10 days
