Add the egg and beat until smooth
Sift together the flour, yeast, baking soda, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, and salt three times
Alternate adding the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the cream, beating until just combined
Bake in a greased rectangular pan at moderate heat for 45-60 minutes.
