1/2 kg of ground beef
250 g of chopped bacon
1 grated onion
1 egg
3/4 cup of breadcrumbs
1/3 cup of milk
1 teaspoon of salt
black pepper to taste
Bread Crust
2 cups of all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons of active dry yeast
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/4 cup of butter or margarine
2/3 cup of milk
Mix all ingredients and shape into a loaf about 20 cm long by 10 cm wide
Place in a greased baking dish and bake at moderate heat for 30 minutes
Remove the loaf from the oven and increase the temperature
While the beef is cooking, you can prepare the bread crust by sifting the dry ingredients
Add the butter or margarine to small pieces
Add milk gradually until you get a dough that's not too hard
Place on a floured surface and knead well
Open the dough to get a rectangle about 40 cm x 35 cm and dampen the edges with water
Place the beef loaf head down onto the bread crust
Raise the ends and close the edges tightly
Place in a baking dish with the edge facing down
Make some superficial cuts on the bread crust
Glaze with cream or egg
Bake for about 10 minutes or until golden brown
Serve hot with gravy or cold.
