Combine the flour, yeast, salt, and sugar
Whisk the butter lightly to soften
Add 3/4 cup of milk and the vanilla extract to the flour mixture
Mix until the flour is moistened
Beat for 2 minutes, scraping down the sides of the bowl occasionally
Add the eggs, 1/4 cup of milk, and beat for an additional minute
Pour the batter into two round cake pans, greased and floured, and bake in a moderate oven for 30 to 35 minutes
Make the cake a day ahead while it's working.
