60 g of semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup of boiling water
1 cup of all-purpose flour
1 cup of sugar
1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
1/2 teaspoon of salt
4 tablespoons of unsalted butter or margarine at room temperature
4 tablespoons of milk, acidified with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or yogurt
1 egg
Whipped cream or meringue for topping (optional)

Preheat the oven to moderate heat (180°)
Grease a 20 cm pan and dust with flour
Melt the chocolate with boiling water, stirring until it dissolves
Let it cool
Mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt
Add the chocolate mixture
Combine with butter or margarine and beat for 1 minute in a mixer, scraping the sides of the bowl
Add the remaining ingredients and beat for another minute
Pour into the pan
Bake for about 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean
Let it cool
Turn it out and top with whipped cream or meringue, if desired.
