1 and 1/4 cups hot water
2 tablespoons rum (optional)

Preheat the oven to moderate temperature (325°F)
In a bowl, whisk together flour, yeast, baking soda, 3/4 cup granulated sugar, and 2 tablespoons strong brewed coffee
Mix in whole milk and melted butter or margarine
Add this mixture to the dry ingredients
Pour into an ungreased small rectangular baking dish (20 cm diameter)
In a separate bowl, whisk together remaining granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, and 1/2 tablespoon strong brewed coffee
Dust over the batter
Mix in hot water and rum (if using)
Pour over the batter
Bake in the preheated oven for about 40 minutes or until firm and bubbly
