Beat the butter (or margarine), eggs, and sugar
Whisk together flour and baking powder
Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk to the mixture, ending with dry ingredients
Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form
Add to the dough and mix carefully
Place half of the dough in a well-greased and floured 24 cm diameter cake pan
Add melted chocolate chips to the remaining dough and mix well
Pour over the first layer of dough
Bake in a moderate oven (180°C) for about 1 hour or until a toothpick comes out clean
Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove
Cool completely before filling the center with chocolate and cream ice cream.
