In a large skillet, heat the butter over high heat until browned
Add the onion, tomato paste, thyme, bay leaf, garlic, salt, and black pepper
Stir well and cover
Reduce heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes
Add the carrot sticks and cook for an additional 10 minutes
Adjust seasoning with water if the sauce thickens.
