2 1/2 cups of wheat flour
4 eggs
1 yolk
1/4 cup of fresh bacon or butter, grated
1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
1 pinch of salt
1/2 teaspoon of lemon zest
2 cups of oil
1/2 cup of honey
1 tablespoon of orange zest
1/2 cup of candied orange and citron, finely chopped
2 1/2 cups of wheat flour
4 eggs
1 yolk
1/4 cup of fresh bacon or butter, grated
1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
1 pinch of salt
1/2 teaspoon of lemon zest
2 cups of oil
1/2 cup of honey
1 tablespoon of orange zest
1/2 cup of candied orange and citron, finely chopped
Place the flour on a flat surface, make a depression in the middle, and add the eggs, yolk, bacon (or butter), baking powder, salt, and lemon zest
Mix well with your hands until a ball forms
Mold the dough into small balls about the size of a pencil and then cut them into 1 cm pieces to facilitate frying
You should end up with around 4 or 5 ropes
Fry them in hot oil, adding them gradually until they're golden brown
Drain them on paper towels
Combine the honey, orange zest, and candied fruit in a saucepan that can hold the ropes with some extra room to spare
Let it simmer
Add the fried dough balls and stir well without crushing them until the honey is fully absorbed and the mixture comes away from the pan
Pour the doctored mixture onto a greased surface, shape into a ring with a hole in the middle, and decorate with candy
Serve immediately or let cool before serving
Note: if you like, you can add 2 tablespoons of melted chocolate to the honey before heating it.
