Beat the butter, brown sugar, vanilla, and salt until smooth
Add the flour and then the pecans
Mix until a dough forms and wrap between 2 sheets of plastic wrap dusted with flour
Shape into a circle and refrigerate for 30 minutes
Unwrap the dough on a floured surface and roll out
Cut the cookies to your desired shape and place them in a baking dish lined with parchment paper
Bake in a medium oven preheated to 375°F for about 20 minutes, or until lightly golden brown on the bottom
Remove from the oven and let cool completely before decorating with your favorite candies
